You will also visit Shipsands Bird Sanctuary.
The Eco-Lodge is truly a 21st century facility.
As you arrive into Moosonee from your train excursion you will be met by your guide where you will experience a freighter canoe water taxi to Moose Factory Island. You will be transported to your accommodations at the Cree Village Eco-lodge, the most advanced accommodations in Canada. An orientation of the adventure will be discussed with you.
After breakfast you will be met by your guide and you will then begin your expedition and travel by freighter canoe to explore the Moose River. You will be taken up the river to a specific place where the Crees have been going since time immemorial. A place of harvest and abundance of wildlife. There we will set up camp, which consists of a tipi. Lunch will be prepared for you by your guide consisting of a traditional meal. For the afternoon we have many recreational options such as swimming, fishing or hiking. A demonstration will be shown on the harvesting techniques used by the Cree people of the area. Dinner will be served upon completion of the afternoon's activities. During the evening around the campfire we will have storytelling and listen to the peacefullness of the area and call of the loon.
After breakfast the demonstration of traditional harvesting techniques will continue. Relax and hike on your own to look at the beautiful scenery until lunch is prepared for you. After lunch we will make our way to Moose Factory Island. Once we arrive a guided tour of the island will visit the historic buildings and museums. Once you have had a taste of our culture from a local perspective, have a taste of the local fare in the community. At the Cree Cultural Interpretive Center, you’ll take a personal glimpse into the Cree way of life that has been through many changes in the past 200 years. Learn from a Nation that has overcome hardships, has progressed so that future generations can be proud of their heritage. Come and be part of the Cree history and learn the ways of the 'Mushkegowuk' or 'Swampy' Cree. During a traditional native cuisine customary of the area a presentation will be made to our visitors from afar, welcoming you to our community.
