Your adventure begins in Kenora, Ontario located on the northern shores of the world-famous Lake of the Woods. It is one of the largest and most popular vacation destinations in central Canada. Lake of the Woods is the second largest inland lake in Ontario and lies deep within the Canadian Shield. Enjoy Kenora’s finest cruising on Lake of the Woods. The cruise offers a spectacular circle route of the northern section of the area. Along the way, view Bald Eagles, pow-wows and an interpretive historical centre.
Upon your arrival you will be met by your host in Winnipeg and will be transported by a luxury bus to Kenora (minimum 26). Kenora is the largest city in the region of Lake of the Woods. The Lake of the Woods is the second largest inland lake in Ontario and lies deep within the Canadian Shield, a land of water, rugged wilderness and wildlife. Overnight at the Super 8 Hotel in Kenora overlooking the lake while enjoying your free continental breakfast. Before settling in for the evening relax in the indoor pool along with the hot tub before your journey into the Lake of the Woods Kenora region.
This morning you will explore Kenora at its best. There are a number of things to see and do. Nineteen Murals that depict Kenora’s heritage can be found on buildings downtown. Kenora’s Harbourfront has a beautiful view of the Lake of the Woods where you can watch the magnificent sunsets. At 1:00pm you will discover a traditional Pow-wow which is an aboriginal ceremony and a celebration of gathering of people or a Round House may be viewed. A Round house has nine sides that represents clans, families and communities. Four areas in the center of the round house signify the four directions. A round house has become a place for everyone to share and learn. After a full day at the Pow-wow or at the round house you can have a chance to explore Kenora and visit the attractions that you missed earlier in the morning. 8:00 AM depart for your journey into the Lake of the Woods on the 190 passenger M.S. Kenora. Breakfast and lunch will be served on the ship and will be departing to your accommodations for the evening 5-star resort Totem Resort located in Sioux Narrows. Your captain will be depicting the area and stories will be told by local elders. The M.S. Kenora will take you through a maze of channels and islands where you will see majestic bald eagles, luxurious summer homes, and unspoiled wilderness. You'll arrive at the 5-star Totem Resort, which is nestled in amongst the majestic Pine trees and sparkling lake. That evening enjoy a bonfire and relax in the hot tub. All meals at the resort are prepared by a world renowned English chef.
Your day begins with breakfast at the resort and you will be taken by bus to Kay-Nah-Chi-Wah-Nung, an ancient aboriginal burial ground and historical centre. The Centre has a deep cultural and spiritual meaning to indigenous people throughout North America. People would gather to trade, share, celebrate and mourn. The history remains through artifacts. After a full day at the historical centre you will arrive at the resort for dinner and take in a cuisine dinner.
That morning you will be departing Totem Resort to travel by the M.S. Kenora through a number of channels of islands while viewing the wildlife. Wiley Point Wilderness Lodge is your lodge for the evening that is overlooking the Lake of the Woods.
Your day is free to explore the area. Activities may include hiking, canoeing or hiring a guide to view pictographs. Diving tours are available upon request. Enjoy the great outdoors and try your hand at some fishing; it's an anglers' paradise. That evening overnight at the wilderness lodge and listen to the call of the loon just outside on the crystal calm lake.
8:00 am cruise the M.S. Kenora to the city of Kenora. With your arrival into Kenora you will visit the Kenora museum one of the finest small museums in Canada. The museum was established in 1964 to collect preserve, research, exhibit and interpret objects that best illustrates the founding settlement and development of the community and area. Collection of artifacts and local history archives are available for viewing. Your evening is free to explore and hire local guides for canoeing or simply renting a sail boat.
